Did you Know?

Funding Assistance is Available for Diapers

Families may be able to access funding assistance from The Easter Seals Society to help with the cost of diapers.  The program, known as the Incontinence Supplies Grants Program, is for children and youth between the ages of 3 to 18 years.  Eligible children have a chronic disability resulting in irreversible incontinence lasting longer than six months and have been confirmed as needing the diapers by their physician or nurse practitioner. Some children under the age of three years may be eligible for funding depending on their diagnosis (for example, Spina Bifida, Prune Belly Syndrome). Children who are "bed wetters" are ineligible.

There are three levels of funding:

  • Level A: $400/year for diapers (age 3 to 5 years), intermittent catheters (3 to 18 years), reusable garments (3 to 18 years)
  • Level B: $900/year: diapers (6 to 18 years), male external catheters
  • Level C: $200/year; bowel management supplies (3 to 18 years)

The grant is a contribution to the cost of supplies and may not cover all costs. Families receive a cheque every 6 months for half of the approved grant. Families must re-apply if they want to increase grant levels.

The guidelines and application form may be accessed at http://www.easterseals.org/imageLibrary/downloads/Incontinence-Supplies-Grant-Application.pdf  or contact:

Testimonial

"How are you doing Dad?" the first full sentence that Nicholas said to his Dad one day coming home from doing our grocery shopping.  I stopped what I was doing and with a lump on my throat I reached out and I gave him the longest hug I had ever given to someone in my life, with a whisper I said " great job Baba"!!

Nicholas was born with a lot of health issues, that forced us to stay at Sick Kids Hospital for six months two weeks after he was born. As a mom, you could always tell something is wrong with your child when he takes your hand to show you something and points out to what he wants instead of saying something.  At two and a half he was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder –something I already had a hunch but was afraid to accept.

Silver Creek Pre-School came into Nicholas's life as  a miracle, and like his guardian angels the staff at this school have guided him in every aspect of his life to be where he is today and will be in the future.  The one- on- one attention, the follow through notes that the OT,  the Speech and Language therapist or the music teacher, and everyone that's involved in his care and in his developmental progress is phenomenal, something that both my husband and I will forever be grateful and will always be a part of Nicholas as he grows older.  Silver Creek staff, you possess the healing hands and big hearts for looking after the welfare of our child in the areas we don't know how.  Thank you for all the love, the support, the kindness and for being the parents for Nicholas when we can't be there.

We put up our tree on November 29th and it was a joy to hear Nicholas say to my husband and I "Merry Christmas Dad, Merry Christmas Mom" a common phrase that everyone says at Christmas time but for my husband and I- it's priceless, one that keeps us smiling each time and leaves us beaming with pride.  Enrolling Nicholas at Silver Creek is the best decision we have ever made for him.  Thank You Silver Creek for helping our Miracle and most of all thank you for being Nicholas's  MIRACLE.

From Nicholas's  Proud and Grateful Parents,
