Silver Creek follows the philosophy of the Ministry of Education’s Early Learning for Every Child Today document (ELECT). We are guided by the principals of ELECT and the 2014 document “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years.”
The ELECT document is based on the following principals:
1. Early child development sets the foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour and health.
2. Partnerships with families and communities strengthen the ability of early childhood settings to meet the needs of young children.
3. Demonstration of respect for diversity, equity and inclusion are prerequisites for optimal development and learning.
4. Play is a means to early learning that capitalizes on children’s natural curiosity and exuberance.
5. Knowledgeable and responsive early childhood practitioners are essential to early childhood settings.
The curriculum at Silver Creek is designed with these five principals in mind at all times. Children are encouraged to PLAY as their form of work. Through play, children make sense of the world through experimentation, trial and error and the guidance of creative adult partners. Materials provided are open ended, which provide increased opportunities for learning.
A professional teaching team tracks and records the learning needs, skill levels, and interests of each child. Classroom activities are designed and set up to reflect the needs of a diverse group of children in each classroom. Each area of development is taken into account when planning and moving children forward in their early development. All of this is done in an environment that is nurturing, safe, and open to the needs of all children.

Everyone at Silver Creek has been extremely compassionate, professional, patient and persistent in helping my child with her activities daily. As a result, my child has made significant improvements in all her developmental areas and in particular, her motor skills.
Silver Creek is a wonderful, caring and enriching experience for pre-schoolers. The program met our expectations (which were high!) because we had spoken with other parents whose children previously attend Silver Creek Pre-School. The teachers and staff exceeding our expectations.
The one-on-one attention, the follow through notes that the OT, the Speech and Language therapist or the music teacher, and everyone that’s involved is phenomenal. Silver Creek staff, you possess the healing hands and big hearts for looking after the welfare of our child in the areas we don’t know how.

Thank you Silver Creek Pre-School for welcoming me as an observer to your program. I learned so much about paying attention to every little detail in supporting a child who needs assistance in taking small steps to reach their larger goal. The staff at Silver Creek Pre-School are very special professionals who demonstrate how precious life is to our little children.
Sheri Robb, Special Needs Consultant
The staff at Silver Creek see the children as a ‘whole child’ i.e. well beyond any special needs that they might have, and see them as individuals with lots of strengths in different ways. For me, I have learned that the more work I can put into helping my child, the more she will be able to achieve her goals, and they can be small goals so we can celebrate success often. You are a very special group of people and you have definitely made a huge positive impact in our lives.
Thank you all for all of your hard work and all of the feedback regarding Alexa. Your dedication towards my daughter’s continued development is inspiring. Alexa is extremely fortunate to have so many people in her life ready to support and inspire her to do things we were not sure were possible.

David flourished at Silver Creek and so did I. The staff became my friends and a great emotional support to me. They helped with equipment suggestions, sources of extra funding, and co-ordinating David’s school placement at Sunnyview P.S. Well, David moved on but I stayed. I have been on the Board of Directors since 1998, and President for the past 5 years. Silver Creek is a magical place!
The things I like about Silver Creek: 1. Playing on the computer 2. Playing dress-up with my friends 3. I like when the teachers read books to me 4. I also liked to spend time with Bill. He used to tell me jokes. They were very, very, very, very funny. 5. My favourite activity was listening to music

My daughter first attended Silver Creek when she was 2 years old and it was the first time I left her in the care of someone outside our family. The teachers and staff at Silver Creek were so empathetic and understanding and made the process less stressful for both my daughter and myself.
The staff at Silver Creek have definitely exceeded my expectations in every way. They genuinely care about the children and work tirelessly every day for the benefit of the children. They also have a wealth of knowledge and have become my trusted advisers whenever I have questions or concerns about my child.
