The parent program at Silver Creek Pre-School is a support network that aims to empower parents and enable families to advocate for their children. Because of its positive impact, Silver Creek continues to make significant enhancements to this program, and is happy to see how its expansion has allowed more access to support for parents.
With a parent support staff member available in person on set days at the school, as well as through email, the parent program offers increasing resources for families. The program is family-driven and is there to offer support in any way you need. We offer information about available community and health services, help with completing applications, and counsel and guidance in managing personal matters. Please ask, we are here to support you and help you find answers!
Our dedicated space in the school, the Parent Room, is a welcoming place to gather, obtain information, or to simply relax and chat with other parents. Rich social support networks often develop between our families this way, extending into friendships beyond school walls. As one parent has put it, this is her “Silver Creek family.”
As part of our parent support program, Silver Creek also offers a series of support group sessions, led by a professional family therapist. These sessions are aimed at addressing issues such as self-care, family connections, school transitions and sharing in the joys and challenges of caring for a child with special needs. These sessions are held throughout the year, and all parents are notified and invited to participate if they choose. Our families are appreciated as partners in the provision of services to the children, and we have learned that the greatest insight and change is often achieved through the sharing of information between parents.
Fadhil has become a more confident boy ready to take on the world. He is able to sign and communicate his needs very efficiently. I am no longer worried about how he will do in school because of the great accomplishments that I have seen while he was at Silver Creek. Thank you for giving us courage and strength.
The Gedi Family
The staff at Silver Creek see the children as a ‘whole child’ i.e. well beyond any special needs that they might have, and see them as individuals with lots of strengths in different ways. For me, I have learned that the more work I can put into helping my child, the more she will be able to achieve her goals, and they can be small goals so we can celebrate success often. You are a very special group of people and you have definitely made a huge positive impact in our lives.
Everyone at Silver Creek has been extremely compassionate, professional, patient and persistent in helping my child with her activities daily. As a result, my child has made significant improvements in all her developmental areas and in particular, her motor skills.
Thank you all for all of your hard work and all of the feedback regarding Alexa. Your dedication towards my daughter’s continued development is inspiring. Alexa is extremely fortunate to have so many people in her life ready to support and inspire her to do things we were not sure were possible.
Nicole Payette and Family
Since Xavier has been diagnosed with Sandhoff disease, my family’s lives have been turned upside down. It has been difficult for us to find a place for our family in the community. And then we found Silver Creek, it is like a second home to us. I would love the opportunity to give back to Silver Creek.
My two hearing impaired daughters were placed in classrooms with excellent peer language role models to assist in their language and articulation development. They received individualized programs to meet their needs. Silver Creek prepared them well for mainstream kindergarten. We are forever grateful.
Amy De Domenico
Silver Creek is a place like none other. Silver Creek allowed our confidence in our own abilities and decisions to be celebrated as Marasia’s world opened up in front our eyes. We are forever grateful for the exceptional staff at this very special place who make children (and their families) feel like superstars everyday.
The Townsend-Nunes Family
The staff at Silver Creek are a very special group of professionals who I find care deeply for the children they work with while at the same time pushing them to excel and surpass expectations often placed on children with disabilities. Thank you, Silver Creek!
I will never forget the moments when interacting with my children’s teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapist and volunteers how obvious it was they were fulfilling their truest calling in supporting them and all children. I feel profoundly lucky and grateful knowing that my children’s path forward is brighter now because of them.
The things I like about Silver Creek: 1. Playing on the computer 2. Playing dress-up with my friends 3. I like when the teachers read books to me 4. I also liked to spend time with Bill. He used to tell me jokes. They were very, very, very, very funny. 5. My favourite activity was listening to music
