Every child will have a primary therapist. This professional will be part of the team in your child’s classroom---responsible for the assessment, setting up of goals in collaboration with you, and the planning and delivery of treatment. We also have therapy assistants who may be involved in carrying out the program as established by your therapist.
There are several ways that OT and PT is provided at Silver Creek:
In the classroom, as part of the program. Therapy goals are incorporated into the circle, play, and snack times—most all routines of the day. Adapted seating, positioning, mobility and other specialized equipment are available for your child to maximize his/her ability to play and participate in the program.
Specialized therapy groups. The OT, PT, and therapy assistant run small groups throughout the week, focusing on specific gross motor skills, pre-printing, fine motor skills, self-help and sensory strategies. Typically your child will participate in one or two of these groups during the school term.
Collaborative Therapy groups. As an example, we have Music and Movement groups in which the music therapist helps us facilitate movement, body awareness and motor planning through the use of music.
Individual goals. These goals are worked on throughout the day with the therapist, either in the classroom, Snoezelen room, gym, or during transitions (for example, working on walking when going to and from the bus).
Orthotics and seating clinics are held at the pre-school and if there is a need, your child has the option of receiving services for this at Silver Creek. We have Assistive Devices Program (ADP) authorizers on staff and they will prescribe necessary equipment to meet your child’s needs.
We assist families with securing funding for equipment that is not funded by the ADP.
We are also trained in Kinesiotaping techniques and Theratogs, and will be able to provide these treatments for the children who would benefit from it.
We provide therapy through play and most often the children do not perceive it as therapy, rather as fun!
To maximize your child’s potential at home and school it is beneficial to collaborate with outside agencies that are also providing service to your child. We welcome and encourage ongoing input from parents.

I will never forget the moments when interacting with my children’s teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapist and volunteers how obvious it was they were fulfilling their truest calling in supporting them and all children.
